Viet Nam’s largest painting made of coconut shells will be auctioned on August 2 with the starting price of VND500 million (around US$30,000) to raise money for the Viet nam Red Cross Organization .
The painting, which measures 3.2 m by 3.2 m and weighs 200 kg, was made from 2,000 pieces of coconut shells. It was made in seven months between last June to this January by artisan Vo Quy Quoc, a 25-year-old graduate from Dong Nai College of Fine Arts and Decoration, and his co-workers.
Displayed at Ho chi minh city Exhibition House from June 27-29, the painting in entitled “Union Song.” It depicts Viet Nam’s 54 ethnic groups gathered around Uncle Ho singing the "Union Song."
It will be introduced to audiences at a commercial - charitable fair entitled "Kind Hearts" which will take place from July 26 to August 2 at Phu Tho Stadium in District 11.
The painting will be recognized by Vietkings, a venture of the Viet nam Book of Records, as the largest coconut shell painting in Viet Nam.
